Every part of the body is covered by skin. It is the part that is in direct contact with the environment and bears the brunt of the weather that needs utmost attention. Unlike the animals, human skin is not covered by any fur or pelt that can help protect the skin from adverse environmental conditions.
The skin actually takes care of quite a lot of things for our body and most often, we do not even realize it. Did you know that it protects your body by defending it against the environment’s adverse effects? Or, that it acts as a heat regulator and preserves your body fluids from getting evaporated? Or that your body’s essential nutrients are conserved by your skin acting as a water resistant barrier?
The skin being the most exposed part of the body; it is also the one that begs most to be taken care of. You obviously do not want your skin to be the one speaking to the world about you in a way that’s not you? You wouldn’t want your skin to suggest your age, nor to be called weather beaten when you should be beating the weather. If at all, you want your skin to tell the world that skin is only as good as it is taken care of.
Taking care of the skin is actually simpler than you thought. Skin simply needs cleansing, toning, and the replenishment of moisture. The body loses fluid constantly which has to be replaced at the same pace.
Drinking water for example is advised for a great looking skin. But skin care is not just about drinking water and that’s an indirect input to skin. Something more direct needs to be done to the skin to make it look and feel soft and glowing.
The answer lies in moisturizers that are especially made to take care of the external layers of the skin. Whether during hot summers or cold winters, the moisturizers when applied directly to the skin, help to increase the skin’s much needed hydration and prevent evaporation of the body fluids, thereby making your skin look and feel soft, nicely elastic and enviable.
Moisturizers come in different forms for you to choose from – ultra-light ones that are quickly absorbed by your skin and some with essential oil content to take care of especially dry skin; some are tinted with various fragrances to make you feel good - aloe vera, jasmine, coffee, peach, strawberry orange etc; and some with traditional friends of the skin like honey and milk.
